Rainy Season Humidity Control Guide: My Solution Cost Under $30

Southern friends should understand how miserable rainy season can be.

Walls sweating, clothes getting moldy, bedding feeling damp—the whole situation is just awful.

Last year I wasn’t prepared, and ended up with a whole closet of clothes with mold spots—lost thousands. This year I smartened up, did my homework early, and spent under 200 yuan setting up a complete anti-humidity system.

Solution #1: Closet Dehumidifier Boxes

These are the cheapest—about 10 yuan for 3 on Taobao. I put 2 in each closet, 1 in each drawer. They use calcium chloride to absorb water—just replace when the box fills with water.

Tested and proven: after one month, the dehumidifier boxes in my closet collected half a box of water, but the clothes really had no musty smell. Worth it!

Solution #2: Hanging Dehumidifier Bags

These hang in closets, specifically targeting hanging clothes. I bought 20, hanging 3-4 in each closet—also replace when full.

The upside is you can directly see how much water was absorbed, which is reassuring. The downside is they occasionally leak (don’t ask how I know…), so best to put a tray underneath.

Solution #3: Activated Charcoal Packets

Besides absorbing moisture, they also remove odors. I stuffed them in shoe cabinets, bookcases, and sofa crevices.

200g packets, averaging 2 yuan each. I bought 30 packets and put them everywhere. Though not as immediately effective as dehumidifier boxes, the advantage is they’re reusable—just dry in the sun to restore moisture absorption.

Solution #4: AC Dehumidify Mode

This doesn’t cost money to buy, but many people don’t know to use it.

During rainy season, I basically run the AC on dehumidify mode for 2 hours every evening. Humidity drops from around 80% to 60%. More energy-efficient than cooling mode, and works well.

Total cost?

Dehumidifier boxes 30 yuan + dehumidifier bags 40 yuan + charcoal packets 60 yuan + other small items 20 yuan = around 150 yuan.

Results? So far—no moldy clothes, no sweating walls, dry bedding. This return on investment—seriously, I’m grateful.

Friends, you really can’t tough out rainy season. Spending a little money to prepare ahead is way more cost-effective than dealing with moldy stuff afterward.
