Spring Cleaning Checklist: 12 Overlooked Corners You Should Clean

Every spring, I do a deep clean.

But honestly, my past cleaning was superficial—wiping tables, mopping floors, calling it done when things “looked clean.”

Until last year, when I cleaned my AC filter. The dust shocked me. The air I breathe daily passed through that filthy filter.

This year I made a detailed checklist targeting easily overlooked corners.

Sharing with you.

  1. AC filter

So many people neglect this. Clean AC filters every 2-3 months—definitely before spring use.

Remove, rinse with water and a bit of detergent, dry, reinstall. Under 10 minutes, but significantly improves air quality.

  1. Washing machine drum

After prolonged use, the drum hides nasty buildup.

Buy washing machine cleaner, run an empty cycle as directed. You’ll see floating debris—trust me, you’ll thank me for the reminder.

  1. Refrigerator door seal

That rubber seal is mold’s favorite spot.

Use cotton swabs dipped in baking soda solution, scrub bit by bit. Tedious, but satisfying to see blackened seals become clean.

  1. Range hood filter

Harder to clean than expected, but also dirtier than expected.

Soak in baking soda + hot water for half an hour, then scrub. Grease comes off much easier.

  1. Window tracks

Windows not sliding smoothly? Tracks likely filled with dust and debris.

Old toothbrush + vacuum to clear gunk. Spray some lubricant—windows glide like new.

  1. Curtains

Many people never wash curtains, but they’re dust collectors.

Machine-washable ones go in the washer; others get vacuum + upholstery cleaner. Whole room feels fresher afterward.

  1. Sofa crevices

Under cushions and in gaps—snack crumbs, coins, hair accumulate constantly.

Remove all cushions, vacuum thoroughly. You’ll be surprised how much “treasure” you find.

  1. Bathroom exhaust fan

Almost nobody cleans this, but it’s genuinely dirty.

Remove, rinse off dust and grime. Better airflow means less mold growth.

  1. Mattress

Sheets change regularly, but what about the mattress?

Vacuum thoroughly, spray with dust mite spray. Sun exposure on the balcony if possible works wonders.

  1. Keyboard and mouse

Daily use items rarely cleaned.

Turn keyboard upside down, shake, use compressed air for dust. Wipe mouse with alcohol pads—germs significantly reduced.

  1. Doorknobs and switch plates

High-touch areas harbor lots of bacteria.

Wipe all with disinfectant wipes, especially bathroom doorknobs.

  1. Trash cans themselves

We empty trash, but the cans get dirty too.

Scrub thoroughly with detergent, dry before adding new bags. Odors decrease significantly.

After tackling these 12 spots, though tired, that “clean from inside out” feeling is wonderful.

Spring is the season of growth—time to refresh your home too.

Pick a weekend and get moving!
