Spring Clothes Care Guide: Laundry Mistakes That Ruin Your Wardrobe

Girl, let me tell you—the most damaging thing to seasonal clothes isn’t wearing them. It’s washing them.

Last week I stuffed a pile of down jackets and wool sweaters into the washer. Result? Shrunken casualties and escaped feathers everywhere. That 800-yuan cashmere sweater? Now cat-sized. (Don’t ask.)

After digging through piles of care guides, I learned the golden rule of seasonal laundry: check the label, then sort. Down, wool, silk, denim—each has its own personality.

Down jackets and agitator washers are a dangerous combo (explosion incidents are real). Hand wash or gentle cycle only, water under 30°C, mild detergent. Don’t wring—press out water with a dry towel, then lay flat to dry.

Wool sweaters fear hot water and rough handling. Cold water + wool-specific detergent, gentle pressing motion. Never hang dry—it stretches. Lay flat on a drying rack, away from direct sun.

Silk is even pickier. Hand washing is mandatory. Don’t soak longer than 5 minutes. Use neutral silk-specific detergent.

My biggest lesson? “Clean” doesn’t mean “wash frequently.” For seasonal storage, unless visibly dirty, air drying beats washing. Some clothes are ruined by over-washing, not over-wearing.
