Second-Hand Selling Guide: 5 Legit Platforms That Earned Me $3000
Last month I organized my room and cleared out a mountain of ‘neither useful nor willing to discard’ stuff.
Old clothes, outdated bags, books I’ll never re-read, replaced phones, piled on the floor like a small hill. Toss them? Painful. Keep them? Space-consuming.
I spent a week researching resale channels and earned nearly $3000 back. Here’s my experience with 5 reliable platforms that won’t disappoint.
First, old clothes: Feimayi/Baijingyu
I used Feimayi, searchable on Alipay. Schedule pickup, SF Express or Deppon comes to you, no carrying downstairs.
Key point: they pay by item count, not weight, via points or cash. Generally 5kg+ of clothes earns $10-30, depending on condition and brand.
Not big money, but super convenient. Wearable items get donated to poor areas, unwearable ones recycled. Better than trashing.
Pro tip: wash and dry clothes before pickup. Dirty clothes get rejected and returned. Hassle.
Second, used books: Duozhuayu
Duozhuayu is a book lover’s blessing. Scan for instant pricing, not the highest but hassle-free. SF pickup, direct payment after inspection.
Sold 30+ books, earned $200+. Textbooks and exam prep books fetch better prices, novels less.
Note: too old, severely damaged, or pirated books get rejected. Pre-screen before shipping.
Third, electronics: Aihuishou/Zhuanzhuan
Upgraded phones, needed to sell iPhone 13. Compared platforms, chose Aihuishou.
When pricing online, be honest about condition. Screen scratches, frame dents, battery health all affect final price. I overestimated initially, got price-cut at inspection, disappointing gap.
Recommendation: visit offline stores for on-site inspection. Accept if price works, walk away if not. Got $400, $30 less than online estimate, acceptable.
Also, factory reset before selling, sign out Apple ID, wipe data. Safety first.
Fourth, luxury/bags: Zhier/Hongbulin
Had several impulse-buy bags, worn few times then idle. Selling on Xianyu is exhausting, negotiation fatigue.
Tried Zhier, decent experience. Ship bags to them, professional authentication and pricing, then consignment on their platform. About 20% commission after sale.
Sold a Coach bag, earned $120. Much less than purchase price, but better than dust collection.
These platforms suit those wanting convenience over maximum profit. If you have time and negotiation skills, Xianyu might fetch higher prices.
Fifth, miscellaneous/small items: Xianyu
Previous platforms are vertical, but homes have random stuff: air fryer used once, yoga mat from a fad, small appliances.
Xianyu for these. Photos, description, pricing, wait for buyers.
My experience: price low for quick sales. Don’t expect cost recovery, something is better than nothing. Air fryer cost $50, used twice, sold for $15. Loss, but better than trashing.
Xianyu bonus: bartering. Some things won’t sell but can trade for needed items. Exchanged unused lamp for organizer set, mutual benefit.
Finally, mindset.
Many hesitate discarding because ‘it cost a lot originally’. But that money’s gone, sunk cost. Unused items don’t recover costs, just consume space and energy.
My rule now: anything untouched for a year, consider letting go.
Except sentimental items. But most things aren’t as important as you think.
Post-decluttering, home feels refreshingly clean. More importantly, clearer self-awareness of what’s truly needed vs impulse buys. More rational shopping ahead.
After all, fewer possessions, richer life.
