Don't Carry It Downstairs! 5 Free Door-to-Door Recycling Platforms I Tested
The most annoying part of seasonal change isn’t organizing—it’s dealing with clothes you don’t want and appliances you don’t use.
My old approach was primitive—either pile them in corners to collect dust, or struggle downstairs on weekends to throw them away. The former made my home increasingly cramped, the latter left me exhausted and wasteful.
Last year, I discovered “free door-to-door recycling” services. Book a time, staff comes to pick up, you don’t have to carry anything, and old items find good homes.
Today I’m sharing 5 platforms I’ve used to help you avoid pitfalls and choose right.
Real Experience with 5 Platforms
1. AiHuiShou (Old Electronics)
Scope: Phones, tablets, laptops, cameras, headphones, and other electronics
Process: WeChat mini-program booking → Choose time → Engineer visits for inspection → On-site quote → Payment
My experience:
- Fast door-to-door service, came within 2 hours of booking
- Engineers use professional equipment for inspection, reasonable quotes
- Can refuse the quote without any fees
Watch out: Backup phone data and sign out of accounts beforehand, or engineers will require on-site processing.
2. FeiMaYi (Old Clothes)
Scope: Clothes, shoes, bags, bedding (any condition)
Process: WeChat mini-program booking → Choose time → Courier pickup → Free shipping
My experience:
- Completely free, not even shipping fees
- Flexible pickup times, available on weekends
- Gives environmental points, redeemable for small gifts
Watch out: Single pickup needs at least 5kg, so save up enough items first.
3. XiaoHuangGou (Old Appliances)
Scope: Fridges, washing machines, AC units, TVs, computers, and other large appliances
Process: App booking → Choose time → Collector visits → On-site quote → Payment
My experience:
- Professional handling, no need to lift yourself
- Prices somewhat higher than local scrap collectors
- Provides electronic receipt for tracking
Watch out: Old appliances might not be worth much, but the convenience of not carrying them downstairs yourself is worth it.
4. Xianyu (Secondhand Trading)
Scope: Items in good condition (clothes, appliances, books, etc.)
Process: Take photos and upload → Set price → Buyer orders → Ship by courier
My experience:
- Brand items and items in new condition can sell for good prices
- Requires time for photos, descriptions, and buyer responses
- Good for patient people
Watch out: Beware of “price slashing after receipt”—I recommend payment before delivery.
5. Alipay “Clothes Recycling”
Scope: Clothes, shoes, bags (any condition)
Process: Search “clothes recycling” in Alipay → Choose provider → Book pickup
My experience:
- Simple operation, no extra app needed
- Similar to FeiMaYi, completely free
- Ant Forest gives energy rewards
Watch out: Multiple providers available, choose ones with high ratings.
My Strategy
Different items, different platforms—highest efficiency:
- Electronics → AiHuiShou (fast, reasonable prices)
- Old clothes (large quantity) → FeiMaYi/Alipay recycling (completely free)
- Old appliances → XiaoHuangGou (no need to carry yourself)
- Items in good condition → Xianyu (can sell for money, but takes time)
One Reminder
When organizing during seasonal changes, I suggest sorting while you go:
- Can sell (good condition) → Xianyu
- Can donate (still usable) → FeiMaYi/Alipay
- Must throw (completely broken) → Direct disposal
Process everything at once, and your home immediately feels fresher.
Don’t let old items occupy space and clutter your mind. Deal with what needs dealing, recycle what can be recycled. Saves space and helps the environment—why not?
