6 Cleaning Spots You're Definitely Missing Before May Day—Here's What to Do
Hey ladies, the May Day holiday is almost here—is your place clean?
Last week while I was doing my spring clean, I found several cleaning blind spots that are super easy to overlook. Not because I’m lazy, but because these spots really do get forgotten.
First: AC vents.
When I turned on my AC for the first time this summer, the smell was… let’s just say eye-opening. After some research, I realized the filter area gets incredibly dirty—dust, lint, sometimes even bugs. So every year before first use, I now take out the filter, wash it, let it dry, then put it back. This really doesn’t take much effort, but so many people just don’t think about it.
Second: refrigerator door seals.
I had no idea about this one! I watched a show that said refrigerator seals are among the dirtiest spots in the home, and I didn’t believe it—until I opened mine. Ladies, just go check yours. I’ll spare you the description. Use a cotton swab dipped in cleaner to wipe away the gunk. Do this about once a month.
Third: curtain rods and the tops of curtains.
Almost nobody cleans these spots, but when I did, the amount of dust genuinely shocked me. Pet owners, especially—the pet hair all gets trapped in the folds at the top of curtains. Use a damp cloth to wipe these down, or take them down and wash them.
Fourth: under beds and sofas.
I know these spots are hard to reach, but they really can’t be ignored. If you have kids, fallen food crumbs, snacks, and debris can get underneath and grow mold over time. I use an extended-handle mop now—saves me from bending over.
Fifth: light fixtures and lamp shades.
I’ll admit I forget about these too. But if your lamp shades are fabric or paper, accumulated dust not only reduces lighting quality but can also trigger allergies. Don’t even get me started on crystal lamps—the cleaning difficulty is its own story.
Sixth: inside the toilet tank.
This one surprised me too! The inside of toilet tanks can accumulate limescale and sediment. Next time you flush, look at the water—is there any gunk in there? Clean the tank every three to six months. Soak with white vinegar for about an hour, then scrub and flush. Simple.
That’s the six cleaning blind spots I’ve discovered recently. Hope this helps you during your pre-holiday cleanup—wishing you a fresh and clean May Day!
