Whole-House Seasonal Cleaning Took Me 2 Full Days - But These 5 Places Are Most Easily Overlooked

Listen up everyone, last weekend I did something major—whole-house seasonal cleaning.

Not the kind of superficial wiping and mopping, but really turning the house upside down. From 9 AM to 7 PM, only ate instant noodles in between. Now the whole house shines, but my back is about to break.

However, you only know after falling into pits—some places you really wouldn’t think to clean normally. Today I’ll share the 5 places most easily overlooked in whole-house seasonal cleaning. Don’t ask how I know, just know it’s from painful lessons.

First: AC filter

Goodness, when I opened the AC filter, I almost threw up my breakfast. The dust on it was thick enough to write on. The key is, you normally can’t see this thing, but when you turn on the AC, all that dust blows into the air.

Personally tested effective cleaning method: remove filter, soak in warm water + dish soap for 10 minutes, brush with soft brush, air dry and reinstall. Cost: 0 yuan, just takes some elbow grease.

Second: Curtains

I never thought about washing curtains before. Until one day when the sun was especially good, I saw dust dancing in the light on the curtains… really grateful 😭

Curtains don’t need to be taken down and washed every time—that’s too troublesome. My approach: use vacuum + brush head, go from top to bottom. If there are obvious stains, spot clean with damp cloth. Deep wash once a year is enough.

Third: Refrigerator seal

I wipe the inside of the refrigerator weekly, but the seal? Never paid attention. This time when I looked, it was full of mold spots with a weird smell.

This place is simple to clean: cotton swab + alcohol, wipe along the seal gaps. Mold disappears immediately, refrigerator smells fresh. Sisters, this money is well spent—oh wait, this time is well spent.

Fourth: Under bed and under sofa

When I moved, I discovered under the bed there was an earring I lost half a year ago, plus three single socks. Dust and hair clumped together like a hairball monster.

Suggest buying a long-handled gap cleaning duster, or just move the bed and thoroughly clean. Don’t delay, the more you delay the less you want to move.

Fifth: Washing machine rubber seal

I use the drum self-clean every month, thought it was very clean. This time looking closely at the rubber seal, it was full of black mold spots. No wonder sometimes clothes have a moldy smell after washing.

Cleaning method: white vinegar + baking soda, spray on the seal, let sit 15 minutes, then brush with old toothbrush. Can remove most mold spots. If too severe, might need to buy specialized washing machine cleaner.

After discussing these 5 dead corners, let me share my overall cleaning sequence for reference:

  1. High to low: ceiling, curtains, AC → walls, furniture → floor
  2. Dry to wet: vacuum → wipe → mop
  3. Inside to outside: inside cabinets → surfaces → external spaces

This way you won’t repeat labor, and won’t dirty already cleaned areas.

Finally want to ask you: When doing seasonal deep cleaning, do you like to finish thoroughly in one go, or spread it over several days?

I’m the type who “either doesn’t do it, or finishes it completely,” so I’m exhausted every time. But looking at the clean house, I feel truly at ease. This is probably the “clean casually normally, finish up seasonally” dual-track mode—my normal maintenance is average, so seasonal cleaning needs to be big.
